Conversation guide

Ask what is changing for her

You may know your girlfriend’s routines without knowing which parts she wants to change. Ask about a responsibility she would like to put down or something she wants more time to explore. Listen before offering a plan. She may want company in thinking it through rather than a solution.

Share the uncertainty

Take a turn answering the same question. If you discuss the future, distinguish a hope from a commitment: wanting to travel together is different from agreeing to move. When an answer surprises you, ask what led her there. You do not have to settle the whole future to leave with a clearer understanding of each other.

  • Do you want ideas, or just someone to listen?
  • Can we pick this up again later?
